About your lesson

Lessons are held in my dedicated music room in my home in Inverurie.

A typical lesson could include:

  • Playing / singing your new favourite song
  • Learning new chords
  • How to read music
  • Written theory work
  • Practicing for playing at your granny's birthday party
  • Writing a song
  • Exam work
  • Composition
  • Learning how to sing in harmony
  • Or even playing an african drum or any other instrument in my music room!

It's your lesson so its your choice (obviously more structured for children but still including all the above) The only thing I will guarantee is that you or your child WILL learn and it WILL be fun. :-)

Guitar is my main instrument and I teach Acoustic and Electric Guitar from beginner to intermediate. I encourage all my pupils to sing and I've been astounded at the progression from pupils who have never sang a note before to a full blown musician playing and singing with others and in front of an audience.

I also teach Piano, Ukelele and Bass for complete beginners.

Lessons are completed structured to suit each pupil as everyone comes to me for different reasons, with different musical tastes and various abilities.

Guitar can be taught without reading actual musical notation, more popular with adults, but with children, I do teach them the basics of music as I feel this is very important and allows them to progress on to a different instrument with those skills behind them. Sometimes they just want to play whats cool, and thats ok too, as long as it's ok with the parent. It really does depend on each individual.

I use a selection of different books but you'd be expected to buy no more than 2 or 3 in the first year, depending on whether they are doing exams etc.

I have a fully stocked music room so pupils do get a chance to try different instruments too, which always seems to go down well.  They can then tell their friends they are a multi- talented wee individual :-)
